Description

Vulnerability in the Oracle Coherence product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Core). Supported versions that are affected are 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0 and 15.1.1.0.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with access to the physical communication segment attached to the hardware where the Oracle Coherence executes to compromise Oracle Coherence. While the vulnerability is in Oracle Coherence, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized creation, deletion or modification access to critical data or all Oracle Coherence accessible data as well as unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Coherence accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 8.7 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N).

Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows a low-privileged attacker with physical network access to compromise the system. Successful exploitation could lead to unauthorized data creation, deletion, modification, or full access to Oracle Coherence data.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. Detection involves checking for these versions and monitoring network traffic for unauthorized access attempts to Oracle Coherence services.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, attackers could gain unauthorized access to critical data, modify or delete it, or create new data. This could lead to data breaches, loss of sensitive information, or system integrity issues.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected Oracle Coherence versions. Ensure network segmentation to restrict physical access to the segment where Oracle Coherence operates. Review and restrict user privileges to minimize potential impact.
