Description

Vulnerability in the Oracle Coherence product of Oracle Fusion Middleware (component: Core). Supported versions that are affected are 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0 and 15.1.1.0.0. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows unauthenticated attacker with network access via TCP to compromise Oracle Coherence. Successful attacks require human interaction from a person other than the attacker and while the vulnerability is in Oracle Coherence, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized creation, deletion or modification access to critical data or all Oracle Coherence accessible data as well as unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Coherence accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 9.3 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N).

Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to potentially compromise the system. The attack requires some interaction from another person and could impact other connected products. Successful exploitation could lead to unauthorized data access or modification.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. Detection involves checking for these versions and monitoring network traffic for unauthorized access attempts via TCP. Use commands like 'java -jar coherence.jar -version' to check installed versions. Inspect logs for unusual activity or connections to Oracle Coherence ports (default 7574, 8088).

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to create, delete, or modify critical data in Oracle Coherence. It may also grant unauthorized access to sensitive information. The high CVSS score indicates a significant risk of confidentiality and integrity breaches.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, which may violate GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) requirements. Non-compliance risks include legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage due to potential data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle Coherence patches for versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0 as soon as possible. Restrict network access to Oracle Coherence ports via firewalls to limit exposure. Monitor network traffic for unusual activity targeting Oracle Coherence services.
