Executive Summary

This is a critical vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to remotely access the system via TCP and take full control of Oracle Coherence. The flaw affects versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0.

Detection Guidance

Detection involves checking for Oracle Coherence instances running vulnerable versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0) and monitoring for unauthorized network access via TCP. Use network scanning tools like nmap to identify Coherence ports (default 7574) and verify software versions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to completely take over Oracle Coherence, leading to loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data processed by the system. This could result in unauthorized access, data breaches, or system disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, and other regulations due to potential data breaches, unauthorized access, and loss of data integrity. Organizations using affected versions may face legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Oracle Coherence to a patched version if available. If not, restrict network access to TCP ports used by Oracle Coherence via firewall rules. Disable unnecessary services and monitor for suspicious activity.
