Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows a low-privileged attacker with access to the physical network segment where Oracle Coherence runs to take over the system. The vulnerability has a high CVSS score of 9.0 due to its impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires low-privilege access to the physical communication segment where Oracle Coherence executes. Detection involves checking for unauthorized access or unusual activity in Oracle Coherence components. Review logs for suspicious connections or changes in configuration. Ensure network segmentation and monitor for unexpected network traffic patterns.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain full control over Oracle Coherence, potentially leading to data breaches, unauthorized modifications, or system disruptions. Since Oracle Coherence interacts with other products, the attack may extend beyond just this component.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health data privacy) requirements. Organizations using affected Oracle Coherence versions may face compliance violations and penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle Coherence patches or updates provided by Oracle to address the vulnerability in affected versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0).
