Executive Summary

This is a critical vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to remotely compromise the system via TCP. Successful exploitation could lead to full takeover of the Oracle Coherence instance.

Detection Guidance

Detection involves checking for Oracle Coherence instances running vulnerable versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0) and verifying network exposure via TCP ports. Inspect running processes for coherence.jar or related services and scan for open ports typically used by Coherence (e.g., 7574, 8088).

Impact Analysis

If you use affected versions of Oracle Coherence (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0), an attacker could gain complete control over the system. This may lead to data breaches, unauthorized access, or disruption of services relying on Oracle Coherence.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to compromise Oracle Coherence, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data breaches, or system takeover. Such impacts could violate GDPR (data protection), HIPAA (healthcare data security), and other regulations by exposing sensitive or personal data.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected Oracle Coherence versions immediately. Isolate or restrict network access to Oracle Coherence ports (default TCP ports) until patched. Monitor network traffic for unusual activity targeting Oracle Coherence services.
