Executive Summary

This is a critical vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to remotely access and take over the system via network TCP connections. The flaw affects versions 12.2.1.4.0 through 15.1.1.0.0 and has a CVSS score of 9.8, indicating severe impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. Detection involves checking if these versions are running on your system. Use commands like 'ps -ef | grep coherence' or 'netstat -tulnp | grep 7574' (default port) to identify running instances. Ensure network monitoring for unauthorized TCP access to these ports.

Impact Analysis

If you use affected Oracle Coherence versions, an attacker could exploit this to fully compromise your system. This could lead to data breaches, unauthorized system control, or service disruption. The high CVSS score suggests widespread potential impact.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to compromise Oracle Coherence, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data breaches, or system takeover. Such impacts could violate GDPR (data protection), HIPAA (health data security), and other regulations by exposing sensitive information or disrupting critical services.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately apply the latest Oracle Coherence patches for affected versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. Isolate vulnerable systems from untrusted networks to prevent exploitation.
