Executive Summary

This is a critical vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access via HTTP to remotely compromise the system. Successful exploitation could lead to complete takeover of the Oracle Coherence instance.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. Check for these versions running on your system. Look for exposed HTTP interfaces on default ports (e.g., 8080, 8081) and verify if Oracle Coherence services are accessible without authentication.

Impact Analysis

If you use affected versions of Oracle Coherence (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0), an attacker could gain full control over your system. This may result in data breaches, service disruption, or unauthorized access to sensitive information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. Compliance failures could result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage depending on the data exposed.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected Oracle Coherence versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0). If patches are unavailable, restrict network access to HTTP ports used by Oracle Coherence and disable unnecessary services.
