Executive Summary

This is a critical vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to remotely access and take over the system via HTTP without needing credentials. The flaw affects versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0. Detection involves checking for exposed HTTP endpoints and verifying software versions. Use network scanning tools like Nmap to identify Oracle Coherence services on port 8080 or other common ports. Check server logs for unusual HTTP requests targeting Coherence endpoints.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to fully compromise Oracle Coherence, leading to loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. This may result in unauthorized access, data theft, or system disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to breaches of GDPR or HIPAA due to unauthorized access to sensitive data, potentially resulting in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected Oracle Coherence versions (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, 15.1.1.0.0). If patches are unavailable, restrict network access to HTTP ports used by Oracle Coherence and disable unnecessary services.
