Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows unauthenticated attackers with network access via HTTP to compromise the system. Successful exploitation can lead to unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Coherence accessible data. It also permits unauthorized updates, inserts, or deletes to some accessible data.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0 exposed via HTTP. Verify if the service is running and accessible without authentication. Use network scanning tools like nmap to identify open ports and services.

Impact Analysis

If you use affected versions of Oracle Coherence (12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0), an attacker could steal sensitive data, modify or delete data, or gain full control over the system without authentication.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or modification of sensitive data, which may violate GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) requirements. Non-compliance risks include legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Oracle for affected Oracle Coherence versions immediately. If patches are unavailable, consider isolating the vulnerable component from network access or disabling it until updates are applied.
