Executive Summary

This is a critical vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows an unauthenticated attacker to remotely access the system via HTTP and take over the entire Oracle Coherence component. The vulnerability affects versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking if Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0 are running on your system. Inspect installed software versions and network services. Use commands like 'java -jar coherence.jar -version' or check application logs for Coherence startup details.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could lead to a complete compromise of Oracle Coherence, resulting in loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. Attackers could gain full control, potentially accessing sensitive data or disrupting services.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and confidentiality. Organizations using affected versions may face compliance breaches and legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle Coherence patches immediately. If patches are unavailable, restrict network access to Coherence ports via firewalls, disable HTTP interfaces if not required, and monitor for suspicious activity. Follow Oracle's official security advisories for updates.
