Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. It allows a low-privileged attacker with network access to potentially take over the system. The attack requires TCP access and affects versions 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, and 15.1.1.0.0.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for Oracle Coherence versions 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0. Use commands like 'java -jar coherence.jar -version' or check installed packages via 'rpm -qa | grep coherence' or 'dpkg -l | grep coherence' to identify vulnerable versions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to take over Oracle Coherence, leading to loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. This may also impact other connected products due to scope change.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability allows low-privileged attackers to compromise Oracle Coherence, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data breaches, or system takeover. Such impacts could violate GDPR (data protection), HIPAA (healthcare data), or other regulations requiring strong access controls and data integrity.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply Oracle's official patches or updates for Oracle Coherence immediately. If patches are unavailable, restrict network access to TCP ports used by Oracle Coherence and disable unnecessary services. Monitor Oracle's security advisories for updates.
