Executive Summary

This is a denial-of-service (DoS) vulnerability in Oracle Coherence, a middleware product. A low-privileged attacker with network access can exploit it to crash or hang the Oracle Coherence service repeatedly, causing complete unavailability.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires checking for Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0. Use commands like 'java -jar coherence.jar -version' or check installed packages via 'rpm -qa | grep coherence' or 'dpkg -l | grep coherence'.

Impact Analysis

If you use Oracle Coherence versions 12.2.1.4.0, 14.1.1.0.0, 14.1.2.0.0, or 15.1.1.0.0, an attacker could disrupt service availability, leading to downtime and potential loss of access to critical applications relying on Oracle Coherence.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes denial-of-service (DoS) conditions in Oracle Coherence, leading to system unavailability. Such disruptions may violate compliance requirements for availability in standards like GDPR (data processing integrity) and HIPAA (system reliability for protected health information).

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle Coherence patches immediately. Restrict network access to TCP ports used by Oracle Coherence. Monitor for unusual activity or crashes in Oracle Coherence services.
