Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster products. It allows an unauthenticated attacker with network access to cause a denial of service (DoS) or crash the server repeatedly. It may also allow unauthorized read access to some data.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster versions listed in the CVE. To detect it, check your MySQL version using commands like 'mysql --version' or 'mysqld --version'. If your version falls within the affected ranges (8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1 for Server; 8.0.0-8.0.47, 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1 for Cluster), the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, it could disrupt your MySQL services by causing crashes or hangs, leading to downtime. It may also expose some data to unauthorized access, potentially compromising confidentiality.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance by causing data breaches or service disruptions. GDPR requires protecting personal data, and HIPAA requires ensuring data availability and integrity. A DoS or unauthorized access could violate these requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster to versions not affected by this vulnerability. Specifically, upgrade to versions beyond 8.4.10 for MySQL Server 8.4.x, beyond 9.7.1 for MySQL Server 9.7.x, and beyond 8.0.47 for MySQL Cluster 8.0.x.
