Executive Summary

This is a denial-of-service (DoS) vulnerability in Oracle Unified Directory (OUD) versions 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.2.1.0. An unauthenticated attacker can exploit it remotely via LDAP to crash the OUD service, causing it to hang or repeatedly crash.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects Oracle Unified Directory versions 12.2.1.4.0 and 14.1.2.1.0. Detection involves checking the installed version of Oracle Unified Directory. Use commands like 'ldapsearch -H ldap://<host>:<port> -s base -b "" supportedLDAPVersion' to verify the version. If the version matches affected releases, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If you use Oracle Unified Directory, an attacker could disrupt service availability, leading to downtime for directory operations. This could affect authentication, user management, or other LDAP-dependent services in your environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability causes denial-of-service (DoS) conditions in Oracle Unified Directory, which could disrupt authentication, authorization, or logging systems. For GDPR, this may impact data availability and integrity, potentially violating Article 32 (security of processing). For HIPAA, it could affect access controls and audit logging, risking non-compliance with integrity and availability requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest Oracle Unified Directory patches from Oracle immediately. Disable LDAP access if not required. Restrict network access to LDAP ports (default 389/636) via firewall rules. Monitor for unusual LDAP traffic or crashes in Oracle Unified Directory services.
