Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster where a high-privileged attacker with network access can exploit it to take over the affected systems. The attack requires multiple protocols and is difficult to execute. The impact includes confidentiality, integrity, and availability breaches.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster versions 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1, and 8.0.0-8.0.47. Detection requires checking installed versions against these ranges. Use commands like 'mysql --version' or 'mysqld --version' to verify MySQL Server versions. For MySQL Cluster, check the ndb_mgmd or ndbd process versions.

Impact Analysis

If you use MySQL Server versions 8.4.0-8.4.10 or 9.7.0-9.7.1, or MySQL Cluster versions 8.0.0-8.0.47, 8.4.0-8.4.10, or 9.7.0-9.7.1, an attacker could gain full control of your database systems. This could lead to data theft, unauthorized modifications, or system downtime.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Organizations using affected MySQL versions may face compliance violations and potential penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade MySQL Server to versions 8.4.11 or later and MySQL Cluster to versions 8.0.48, 8.4.11, or 9.7.2 or later to address the vulnerability.
