Executive Summary

This is a vulnerability in Oracle MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster that allows a high-privileged attacker with network access to take over the affected systems. It impacts specific versions of MySQL Server (8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1) and MySQL Cluster (8.0.0-8.0.47, 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1).

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability affects MySQL Server and MySQL Cluster versions listed. Detection involves checking installed versions against affected releases. Use commands like 'mysql --version' or 'mysqld --version' to verify MySQL version. For MySQL Cluster, check 'ndb_mgmd --version'. Compare outputs with affected versions (8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1 for Server; 8.0.0-8.0.47, 8.4.0-8.4.10, 9.7.0-9.7.1 for Cluster).

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain full control over the MySQL Server or MySQL Cluster, leading to unauthorized access, data theft, or disruption of services. The high CVSS score indicates significant potential for confidentiality, integrity, and availability breaches.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or breaches, which may violate GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) requirements. Organizations using affected MySQL versions must address this to maintain compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade MySQL Server to versions 8.4.11 or later, or 9.7.2 or later. Upgrade MySQL Cluster to versions 8.0.48 or later, 8.4.11 or later, or 9.7.2 or later. Apply patches from Oracle as soon as they are available.
