Policy Bypass via SSRF in OpenClaw QQBot Media Upload

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-62216, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description

OpenClaw 2026.4.20 before 2026.5.28 contain a policy bypass in the QQBot media upload feature. A lower-trust caller or configured input path could cause the media upload to reach network destinations that should have been blocked by OpenClaw policy (server-side request forgery). The practical impact depends on the operator's configuration and whether lower-trust input can reach that path.

Executive Summary

OpenClaw versions 2026.4.20 through 2026.5.28 have a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) flaw in the QQBot media upload feature. A lower-trust caller or input path can bypass policy restrictions, allowing media uploads to reach unintended network destinations that should have been blocked.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check OpenClaw versions between 2026.4.20 and 2026.5.28. Verify if QQBot media upload feature is enabled and if lower-trust input paths can reach unintended network destinations. Monitor network traffic for unexpected outbound connections from OpenClaw processes.

Impact Analysis

The impact depends on the operator's configuration and whether lower-trust input can access the affected path. It may allow unauthorized network requests, potentially leading to data exposure or limited loss of confidentiality if exploited.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA if the affected media upload feature is used to process or transmit personal or sensitive data. The SSRF flaw may allow unauthorized network access, which could lead to data exfiltration or unauthorized data processing, violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade OpenClaw to version 2026.5.28 or later. Restrict QQBot media upload feature to trusted operators only. Disable the feature if not needed. Implement narrow allowlists and avoid shared gateways between untrusted users.
