Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an unrestricted image upload flaw in Koollab LMS. An authenticated attacker can upload malicious files disguised as images through the feedback mail registration endpoint. This could allow further attacks on the server.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect uploaded files in the feedback mail registration endpoint for unexpected file types or malicious content. Check server directories for unauthorized PHP or executable files disguised as images. Monitor logs for unusual file uploads or access patterns.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could upload harmful files, potentially leading to server compromise, data breaches, or unauthorized access. Even with low privileges, this could escalate into more severe attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially lead to unauthorized access or data exfiltration if exploited, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data security) by exposing sensitive user information. Unrestricted file uploads may also fail to meet security controls mandated by these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable the feedback mail registration endpoint if not required. Implement strict file upload validation to block non-image file types. Restrict upload permissions to trusted users only. Monitor server logs for suspicious upload attempts.
