Executive Summary

This is a use-after-free vulnerability caused by improper memory management. An application may free memory but continue to use it, leading to crashes or denial-of-service conditions.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Apple macOS versions and involves a use-after-free issue. Detection primarily involves checking your macOS version against the patched releases. Use the command 'sw_vers' to check your macOS version. If your version is below Sequoia 15.7.8, Sonoma 14.8.8, or Tahoe 26.6, your system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to crash an application or system, causing a denial-of-service where the device becomes unresponsive or requires a restart.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update your macOS to the latest patched version: Sequoia 15.7.8, Sonoma 14.8.8, or Tahoe 26.6. You can update via System Preferences > Software Update. Ensure automatic updates are enabled to prevent future vulnerabilities.
