Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) flaw in JFrog Artifactory's support for Terraform remote repositories. It allows authenticated users, or unauthenticated users if anonymous access is enabled, to trick Artifactory into making outbound HTTP requests to arbitrary destinations and receiving the response content.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SSRF vulnerability in JFrog Artifactory, monitor outbound HTTP requests from the Artifactory server to unexpected or external destinations. Check Artifactory logs for unusual requests to internal or external IPs. Enable and review access logs for Terraform remote repository interactions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access internal systems, exfiltrate sensitive data, or perform unauthorized actions on behalf of the Artifactory server. This may lead to data breaches, service disruption, or further network compromise depending on the environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or exfiltration, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations may face compliance violations, fines, or reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable anonymous access to Terraform remote repositories if enabled. Restrict outbound network access from Artifactory to only necessary endpoints. Update JFrog Artifactory to the latest patched version. Review and tighten repository permissions to limit user access.
