Executive Summary

IBM Integrated Analytics System versions 1.0.0.0 through 1.0.31.0 fail to properly validate TLS certificates. This flaw allows attackers to intercept sensitive data by performing man-in-the-middle attacks due to the lack of certificate validation.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves improper TLS certificate validation in IBM Integrated Analytics System. To detect it, check if the system accepts connections with invalid or self-signed certificates. Use network monitoring tools like Wireshark to inspect TLS handshakes for certificate validation failures. Verify system logs for unusual TLS negotiation attempts or man-in-the-middle warnings.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to eavesdrop on or alter communications between systems and the IBM Integrated Analytics System. This may lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information such as credentials, personal data, or other confidential details transmitted over the network.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements that mandate encryption and secure data transmission, such as GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security rule for protecting health information. Failure to secure data in transit may result in non-compliance penalties and increased exposure to data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Ensure TLS certificate validation is properly configured and enforced on IBM Integrated Analytics System to prevent man in the middle attacks. Verify all connections use valid certificates and disable any insecure configurations.
