Description

IBM QRadar 7.6.0.0 through 7.6.0.1, and 7.5.0 through 7.5.0 UP 15 Interim Fix 005 has an XML External Entity (XXE) injection vulnerability. The vulnerability resides in the parseXmlPayload() function within the event processing pipeline ( q1labs_core.jar ). When at least one log source type is configured to use XML-format property autodetection, the system processes XML-formatted syslog events sent to port 514 (UDP/TCP) without authentication.

Executive Summary

This is an XML External Entity (XXE) injection vulnerability in IBM QRadar SIEM versions 7.6.0.0 through 7.6.0.1 and 7.5.0 through 7.5.0 UP 15 Interim Fix 005. It exists in the parseXmlPayload() function within the event processing pipeline. When a log source type is configured to use XML-format property autodetection, the system processes XML-formatted syslog events sent to port 514 without authentication.

Detection Guidance

To detect this XXE vulnerability in IBM QRadar, monitor for unauthorized XML-formatted syslog events sent to port 514 (UDP/TCP). Check if any log source type is configured to use XML-format property autodetection. Review logs for unusual XML payloads or parsing errors in q1labs_core.jar.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to read sensitive files, cause denial of service, or perform server-side request forgery (SSRF) attacks. The high CVSS score (8.2) indicates significant impact, including potential unauthorized access to data and system disruption.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information privacy) requirements. Organizations using affected QRadar versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Disable XML-format property autodetection for all log source types. Block or restrict access to port 514 (UDP/TCP) for unauthenticated sources. Apply IBM's interim fix UP 15 Interim Fix 005 or upgrade to a patched version. Monitor for exploitation attempts.
