Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) flaw in the Eventin WordPress plugin versions before 4.1.21. It allows users with contributor-level access or higher to modify, delete, or take ownership of events created by other users, including administrators, without proper authorization checks.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your Eventin plugin version is below 4.1.21. Use WordPress admin panel to view the plugin version or run the command: wp plugin list --name=eventin. If the version is outdated, update immediately.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with contributor-level access could alter or delete events, including those created by administrators. This could lead to unauthorized changes, data loss, or complete takeover of events, disrupting event management and potentially causing reputational or operational harm.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized modifications or deletions of sensitive event data, potentially violating integrity and access control requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Compliance may be impacted if event data is altered or exposed without authorization.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Eventin plugin to version 4.1.21 or later. Remove contributor-level access for users who do not need it. Review event ownership and changes for unauthorized modifications.
