Executive Summary

The Eventin WordPress plugin before version 4.1.20 has a vulnerability where unauthenticated users can create WordPress user accounts for arbitrary email addresses by exploiting the waiting-list registration endpoint. This happens because the plugin does not perform proper authorization checks, allowing attackers to inject order records without validation.

Detection Guidance

Check if your Eventin WordPress plugin version is below 4.1.20. Look for unauthorized user accounts or unexpected order records in WordPress admin panels.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could exploit this to create unauthorized user accounts, potentially leading to unauthorized access to the WordPress site. They might also inject fake order records, which could disrupt site operations or be used for further attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized user account creation, potentially violating data protection requirements under GDPR or HIPAA. Unauthorized access may result in unauthorized data exposure or processing, which could breach compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Eventin plugin to version 4.1.20 or later immediately. Review WordPress user accounts and order records for unauthorized entries.
