CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

This is a SQL injection vulnerability in the vitepos WordPress plugin before version 3.6.0. The plugin fails to sanitize or parameterize an identifier from a REST request body before using it in a database query within a report endpoint. This allows users with administrator-level access to inject malicious SQL code.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Vitepos WordPress plugin version is below 3.6.0 by inspecting the plugin files or WordPress admin panel. Look for suspicious database queries or errors in server logs related to the 'product-details-report' endpoint.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with administrator access could exploit this to manipulate or extract sensitive data from the WordPress database. This may lead to unauthorized data access, data corruption, or complete database compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or exposure of personal or sensitive data, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR or HIPAA. Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust if such breaches occur.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Vitepos plugin to version 3.6.0 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, restrict administrator-level access to trusted users only and monitor database queries for unusual activity.
