Executive Summary

The WooCommerce Bookings WordPress plugin before version 3.9.0 has a vulnerability where it does not properly check user permissions for an AJAX action. This allows users with Subscriber-level access or higher to create draft bookable products by bypassing a security token check.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the WooCommerce Bookings plugin. If it is below 3.9.0, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress or inspect the plugin files directly.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with Subscriber-level access could create unauthorized draft bookable products, potentially disrupting booking functionality or allowing malicious content to be added to the site.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR or HIPAA as it involves unauthorized creation of draft bookable products by low-privilege users in a WordPress plugin. However, unauthorized access to booking systems could potentially lead to data exposure or integrity issues if exploited, which may indirectly impact compliance depending on the data processed.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the WooCommerce Bookings plugin to version 3.9.0 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin until an update is applied.
