Executive Summary

This vulnerability allows an unauthenticated remote attacker with a valid session identifier to continue using the session even after it should have expired. This poses a risk if sessions are stolen, leaked, shared, or left unattended, potentially enabling unauthorized access to the FDS web interface.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers with a valid session ID to maintain access after session expiration. Detection requires monitoring active sessions and checking for unexpected persistence. Review web server logs for unusual session activity and verify session timeout configurations. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

If you are a user of the FDS web interface, this vulnerability could allow attackers to maintain access to your session even after it expires. This may lead to unauthorized actions being performed on your behalf, data breaches, or further compromise of your account or system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. It undermines session security controls and could result in data breaches, non-compliance penalties, or loss of trust in systems handling protected information.

Mitigation Strategies

Implement session expiration enforcement to ensure sessions terminate when they should. Monitor active sessions for unusual activity and invalidate any sessions that persist beyond their expected lifetime. Review and update session management policies to prevent unauthorized continued access.
