Description

The Advanced File Manager – Ultimate File Manager for WordPress And Document Library Solution plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'soundFile' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 5.4.12 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires the attacker to control a domain whose origin string is a leading prefix of the target site's backend URL (e.g. https://example.co against https://example.com), and the victim must be an authenticated WordPress administrator who visits the attacker-controlled page while the File Manager admin screen is open.

It exists in versions up to 5.4.12 due to improper sanitization of the 'soundFile' parameter. Attackers can inject malicious scripts into pages, which execute when a user visits the affected page. The attack requires the attacker to control a domain that is a leading prefix of the target site's backend URL and for the victim to be an authenticated WordPress administrator with the File Manager admin screen open.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress installations for the Advanced File Manager – Ultimate File Manager plugin versions up to and including 5.4.12. Inspect network traffic for suspicious scripts injected via the 'soundFile' parameter. Monitor admin pages for unexpected script execution.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary scripts into pages. If exploited, it could lead to unauthorized actions on behalf of the user, theft of sensitive data, or session hijacking. Users with administrative access are particularly at risk, as the injected scripts execute when they access the affected page.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. If exploited, it could result in unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, leading to legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies
