Executive Summary

The Pinpoint Booking System WordPress plugin up to version 2.9.9.6.9 has a flaw where it does not properly check booking prices on the server side. This allows unauthenticated users to create bookings with any price, including zero, and get instant approval by choosing a specific payment method.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your Pinpoint Booking System plugin is version 2.9.9.6.9 or earlier. Inspect server logs for unauthenticated booking requests with manipulated prices or instantly approved reservations without proper payment processing.

Impact Analysis

Attackers could exploit this to create free or discounted bookings without paying, leading to financial losses for the business using the plugin. It also undermines trust in the booking system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially violate compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized price modifications in bookings, which may lead to financial discrepancies or improper data handling. Unauthorized access to pricing could also impact data integrity and accountability requirements under these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Pinpoint Booking System plugin to the latest version if available. If no update exists, consider disabling the plugin or restricting access to booking functionality until a patch is released. Monitor for suspicious bookings with zero or arbitrary prices.
