Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in the Meta Box WordPress plugin before version 5.13.1. It allows users with low privileges, such as Contributors, to delete media attachments that belong to other users without proper authorization checks.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the Meta Box WordPress plugin. If it is below 5.13.1, the vulnerability is likely present. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress CLI or inspect the plugin files directly.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow unauthorized users to permanently delete media files uploaded by other users. This may lead to loss of important content, broken links, or disrupted functionality on the WordPress site.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or similar standards as it involves unauthorized deletion of media attachments in WordPress. However, unauthorized data deletion could potentially violate principles of data integrity and availability under these regulations if sensitive media is deleted.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Meta Box plugin to version 5.13.1 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily or restricting user roles to prevent unauthorized deletions.
