Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL injection flaw in the Content Views WordPress plugin before version 4.5. It allows any authenticated user, including Subscribers, to inject malicious SQL queries due to missing capability checks and improper input sanitization in the preview_request AJAX action.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Content Views WordPress plugin version is below 4.5. Use WordPress admin to inspect plugin versions or run SQL queries on the database to verify the installed version.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to manipulate your WordPress database, steal sensitive data, or take control of your website. Since even low-privilege users like Subscribers can exploit it, the risk is significant if the plugin is outdated.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or breaches, violating GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) requirements. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Content Views plugin to version 4.5 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin until an update is applied.
