Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in the LWS Optimize WordPress plugin before version 3.4. It allows any authenticated user, even those with basic Subscriber roles, to clear the site's caches without proper permission checks. This can force the site to rebuild caches repeatedly.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if the LWS Optimize WordPress plugin is installed and verify its version. If it is version 3.4 or below, it is vulnerable. You can inspect the plugin files for cache-clearing actions without proper capability checks.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to degrade site performance by repeatedly clearing caches, causing slow page loads or downtime. It may also disrupt site functionality if cache-dependent features are affected.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR, HIPAA, or other standards as it involves cache-clearing actions by authenticated users. However, repeated cache rebuilds could impact system performance and availability, potentially leading to service disruptions that may indirectly affect compliance with availability requirements in regulations like HIPAA.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the LWS Optimize WordPress plugin to version 3.4 or later to ensure capability checks are performed on cache-clearing actions.
