Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an SQL injection flaw in the Link Library WordPress plugin versions before 7.9.3. It occurs because the plugin fails to properly sanitize and escape user-supplied input before using it in SQL database queries. This allows unauthenticated attackers to manipulate SQL queries, potentially accessing, modifying, or deleting database contents.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if the Link Library WordPress plugin version is below 7.9.3. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress CLI or inspect the plugin files for version details in the WordPress admin panel.

Impact Analysis

If you use the vulnerable Link Library plugin version, attackers could exploit this to steal sensitive data like user credentials, modify or delete database records, or gain full control of your WordPress site. This could lead to website defacement, data breaches, or further attacks on visitors.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing personal or health data. GDPR requires protecting personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguarding protected health information. A breach could result in legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Link Library plugin to version 7.9.3 or later. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until an update is applied to prevent SQL injection attacks.
