Executive Summary

This vulnerability in the GeoDirectory WordPress plugin before version 2.8.169 allows unauthenticated users to access map marker data for individual listings without proper authorization checks. This exposes sensitive information like the title and exact geographic coordinates of non-public listings, including those marked as pending or draft.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your GeoDirectory plugin version is prior to 2.8.169. You can inspect the plugin version via WordPress admin panel or by querying the database. Additionally, monitor network traffic for unauthorized access attempts to the markers REST endpoint.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to view private listing details such as titles and precise locations of unpublished or restricted content. This may lead to privacy breaches, unauthorized access to sensitive data, or potential misuse of location information for targeted attacks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA by exposing personal or sensitive data without authorization. Unauthorized disclosure of location data and listing titles may violate privacy requirements and data protection regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the GeoDirectory plugin to version 2.8.169 or later. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until an update is applied. Review server logs for any signs of unauthorized access to the markers endpoint.
