Executive Summary

This vulnerability in IBM i 7.6, 7.5, 7.4, and 7.3 allows a remote authenticated attacker to gain elevated privileges. It occurs due to improper validation of a client-supplied profile name, which could let the attacker bypass security controls and take control of the system.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to gain higher privileges on your IBM i system, potentially allowing them to install malicious software, steal sensitive data, or disrupt operations. Since it requires remote authentication, attackers must first gain access to a valid account.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating compliance requirements like GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (healthcare data). Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, or loss of certification if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the appropriate PTF for your IBM i version: SJ10916 for 7.3, SJ10915 for 7.4, SJ10903 for 7.5, or SJ10899 for 7.6. If using an unsupported version, upgrade to a supported release.
