Executive Summary

IBM Langflow OSS versions 1.0.0 through 1.10.3 have a vulnerability where a remote authenticated attacker can execute arbitrary code. This happens because the system does not properly validate Python code during AST-based security scanning.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect systems running IBM Langflow OSS versions 1.0.0 through 1.10.3. Check for unauthorized code execution attempts or unusual Python AST parsing activities. Review logs for remote authenticated access patterns that may indicate exploitation attempts.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to run malicious code on your system, potentially stealing data, installing malware, or disrupting operations. Since authentication is required, only authorized users could abuse this, but the impact could be severe if compromised.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized code execution, potentially causing data breaches. This may violate GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health data privacy) by exposing sensitive information, leading to legal penalties and loss of trust.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade IBM Langflow OSS to a version beyond 1.10.3. If upgrading is not possible, restrict remote authenticated access to trusted sources only. Implement strict input validation for Python code execution and disable AST-based security scanning features until patched.
