Description

The Kadence Blocks β€” Page Builder Toolkit for Gutenberg Editor plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Identity Block Inner Image Content in all versions up to, and including, 3.7.8.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This vulnerability is only triggerable when the block's urlTransparent attribute is set to a non-empty value, as this is a required precondition for the vulnerable code path in build_html() to be reached.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the Kadence Blocks plugin for WordPress. It allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts into web pages via the Identity Block Inner Image Content. The issue arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, enabling script execution when users view the affected pages.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires checking WordPress sites using the Kadence Blocks plugin up to version 3.7.8.1. Inspect pages for injected scripts in Identity Block Inner Image Content where urlTransparent is non-empty. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to steal user sessions, deface websites, or redirect visitors to malicious sites. Users with contributor access or above could compromise site integrity, while visitors may face data theft or phishing attacks through injected scripts.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR or HIPAA by enabling unauthorized data access or breaches. Stored XSS may expose user data, violating confidentiality requirements under these regulations, potentially resulting in legal penalties or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Kadence Blocks plugin to the latest version beyond 3.7.8.1. Remove or restrict contributor-level access to untrusted users. Review pages for suspicious scripts and sanitize inputs.
