Stored XSS in Forminator WordPress Plugin via Radio Field

Description

The Forminator Forms – Contact Form, Payment Form & Custom Form Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Radio Field (Save and Continue Draft) in all versions up to, and including, 1.57.0.2 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This is exploitable because the Save-and-Continue draft submission AJAX endpoint is registered as nopriv, allowing unauthenticated attackers to bypass radio field option-membership validation and persist a crafted payload that, when rendered on the Submissions admin page, is auto-executed via the bundled Inputmask library's data-attribute callback binding.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the Forminator Forms WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the Radio Field feature when using the Save and Continue Draft function. The issue occurs due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, enabling payloads to persist and execute when users view affected pages.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to the Forminator Forms WordPress plugin. To detect it, check if your WordPress site uses Forminator plugin version 1.57.0.2 or older. Log in to your WordPress admin panel, go to Plugins, and look for Forminator. If present, verify the version number. You can also use security plugins like Wordfence to scan for vulnerable plugins.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could inject scripts that steal user sessions, redirect to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of users. Victims visiting compromised pages may have their data exposed or accounts hijacked without realizing it.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality principles. For HIPAA, it may risk protected health information exposure, potentially breaching compliance requirements.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Forminator Forms plugin to the latest version available. If an update is not available, consider temporarily disabling the plugin until a patch is released. Additionally, review your site for any suspicious scripts or unauthorized changes in the Submissions admin page.
