Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) issue in the Kadence Blocks plugin for WordPress. It allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject malicious scripts into web pages via the 'toggleIcon' block attribute. The flaw exists due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in versions up to and including 3.7.8.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires checking WordPress installations for the Kadence Blocks plugin versions up to 3.7.8. Inspect plugin files for the 'toggleIcon' block attribute in pages or posts. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. When users access these pages, the injected scripts execute, potentially stealing user data, session cookies, or performing actions on behalf of the user. This could lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, or defacement of the website.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing sensitive user data. GDPR requires protection against unauthorized data processing, while HIPAA mandates safeguards for protected health information. A successful XSS attack may result in data breaches, triggering regulatory fines and legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Kadence Blocks plugin to the latest version beyond 3.7.8. Remove or disable the plugin if updates are unavailable. Restrict contributor-level access to prevent unauthorized script injection.
