Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a SQL injection flaw in the Library Management System WordPress plugin before version 3.6.7. It occurs because the plugin does not properly sanitize and escape a user-supplied parameter before using it in a SQL query. This allows authenticated users with the Subscriber role or higher to inject malicious SQL commands.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if the Library Management System WordPress plugin version is below 3.6.7. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress CLI or inspect the plugin files for version details. Look for suspicious SQL query patterns in logs or database access.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to execute arbitrary SQL commands on the database. This may allow them to extract sensitive data such as user password hashes, modify or delete database records, or gain unauthorized access to the system. The impact depends on the database permissions and stored data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and security. Organizations may face legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Library Management System plugin to version 3.6.7 or later. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until a patch is applied. Review user roles to ensure only necessary permissions are granted.
