Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a sandbox escape issue in Google Chrome caused by insufficient policy enforcement in the Navigation component. A remote attacker who already compromised the renderer process could exploit it via a specially crafted HTML page to break out of the sandbox and potentially gain higher system access.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Google Chrome versions prior to 151.0.7922.109. To detect it, check your Chrome version by running chrome://version/ in the browser. If your version is below 151.0.7922.109, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

If you use Google Chrome versions prior to 151.0.7922.109, this vulnerability could allow an attacker who already has control of a renderer process to escape the sandbox and execute code outside the browser's restricted environment. This could lead to unauthorized access to system resources or data.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by allowing unauthorized access or data exfiltration through sandbox escape in the renderer process. A remote attacker exploiting this flaw might gain elevated privileges, compromising data confidentiality and integrity required by these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 151.0.7922.109 or later to address the insufficient policy enforcement in Navigation that could lead to sandbox escape.
