CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in Google Chrome's Extensions feature. It occurs when a program tries to use memory that has already been freed, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution. An attacker could exploit this by tricking a user into installing a malicious extension, which could then execute code within a sandboxed environment.

Impact Analysis

If you are a Chrome user, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your system by convincing you to install a harmful extension. This could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or further compromise of your device, even though the code runs in a sandbox.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 151.0.7922.109 or later to address the use-after-free vulnerability in Extensions. Remove any suspicious or unnecessary extensions from your browser.
