Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a remote code execution flaw in Tenable Security Center's report generation feature. An authenticated but non-administrative user can exploit it by providing specially crafted input that is processed unsafely during server-side report rendering. This leads to arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the service account running the application.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for unauthorized report generation activity or suspicious input patterns in Tenable Security Center logs. Review server logs for unusual report generation requests or unexpected command execution traces. No specific commands are provided in the available context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected system with the privileges of the service account. This could lead to unauthorized access, data theft, system compromise, or further lateral movement within the network. Non-administrative users could gain elevated privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR, HIPAA, or other regulations. It undermines data integrity, confidentiality, and security controls, potentially resulting in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply vendor patches immediately if available. Restrict non-administrative user report generation permissions. Monitor for unusual report generation activity and disable report generation if suspicious behavior is detected.
