CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a memory corruption issue caused by a use-after-free condition in the display component. It allows an attacker with System privilege to escalate their privileges locally. Exploitation does not require user interaction.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in the display component that requires System privilege to exploit. Detection may involve checking for memory corruption patterns in display-related processes or logs. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker who already has System privileges to further escalate their access, potentially leading to complete control over the affected system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to local escalation of privilege, potentially allowing unauthorized access to sensitive data. This may impact compliance with standards like GDPR and HIPAA by increasing the risk of data breaches or unauthorized data access.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the patch identified as ALPS11019722 to address the memory corruption issue. Ensure the System privilege is properly restricted to prevent local escalation of privilege.
