Information Disclosure in Intel Active Management Technology Firmware

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-20734, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-08-11

Last updated on: 2026-08-12

Assigner: Intel Corporation

Description

Improper initialization in some firmware for some Intel(R) Active Management Technology (Intel(R) AMT), and some Intel(R) Standard Manageability may allow an information disclosure. System software adversary with a privileged user combined with a low complexity attack may enable data exposure. This result may potentially occur via local access when attack requirements are present without special internal knowledge and requires no user interaction. The potential vulnerability may impact the confidentiality (high), integrity (none) and availability (none) of the vulnerable system, resulting in subsequent system confidentiality (none), integrity (none) and availability (none) impacts.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper initialization in firmware for Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) and Intel Standard Manageability. A privileged local attacker with low complexity could exploit it to disclose sensitive data without special knowledge or user interaction.

Detection Guidance

Detection requires checking for Intel AMT or Intel Standard Manageability firmware versions. Use system management tools like Intel Manageability Commander or check firmware versions via BIOS/UEFI or system management interfaces. No specific commands are provided in the context.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain access to confidential information on the affected system. The impact is limited to confidentiality loss, with no direct effects on system integrity or availability.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability may lead to unauthorized data exposure due to improper firmware initialization in Intel AMT and Standard Manageability. Such data breaches could potentially violate confidentiality requirements under GDPR and HIPAA, as both regulations mandate strict protection of sensitive personal and health data. However, the specific compliance impact depends on the system's data handling and the nature of the exposed information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Intel AMT and Intel Standard Manageability firmware to the latest versions. Disable AMT if not required. Apply vendor patches as soon as available. Monitor Intel's security advisories for updates.
