Assigner: Intel Corporation

Description

Improper conditions check for some Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software within Ring 2: Device Drivers may allow a denial of service. Network adversary with an unauthenticated user combined with a low complexity attack may enable denial of service. This result may potentially occur via adjacent access when attack requirements are not present without special internal knowledge and requires no user interaction. The potential vulnerability may impact the confidentiality (none), integrity (none) and availability (high) of the vulnerable system, resulting in subsequent system confidentiality (none), integrity (none) and availability (none) impacts.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves improper conditions check in Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software. An unauthenticated network attacker could exploit it to cause a denial of service via adjacent access without special knowledge or user interaction. The attack has low complexity and high impact on system availability.

Detection Guidance

Detection may involve monitoring network traffic for unusual patterns or service disruptions related to Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software. Check for system logs indicating unexpected driver behavior or crashes in wireless components.

Impact Analysis

The vulnerability may allow an attacker to disrupt network connectivity or system availability, leading to service outages. It does not directly compromise confidentiality or integrity but can severely impact system uptime and reliability.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability primarily impacts system availability with high severity, which could disrupt services handling sensitive data. For GDPR, availability issues may affect data access rights. For HIPAA, downtime could impact protected health information access. However, no direct evidence links this specific CVE to compliance violations.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software to the latest version provided by Intel. Disable or restrict access to vulnerable wireless drivers if updates are unavailable. Monitor network traffic for signs of exploitation attempts.
