Executive Summary

HCL BigFix Quantum Risk Analyzer provides overly descriptive error messages when it encounters malformed input. This allows attackers to gather detailed information about the system's behavior, helping them refine automated fuzzing tools to produce valid input more efficiently.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability involves overly descriptive error messages in HCL BigFix Quantum Risk Analyzer when processing malformed input. To detect it, monitor application logs for detailed error responses during input validation. Check for repeated failed input attempts or unusual error patterns that reveal system internals.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could use this vulnerability to improve the accuracy of their attacks, potentially leading to unauthorized access, data leaks, or system compromise. The detailed error messages reduce the effort needed for reconnaissance and exploitation.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability does not directly affect compliance with GDPR or HIPAA as it involves information disclosure through error messages rather than unauthorized data access or processing. However, excessive error details could indirectly contribute to poor security practices that may violate compliance requirements for data protection and breach notification.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply patches or updates provided by HCL for BigFix Quantum Risk Analyzer to address the overly descriptive error messages. Review and restrict access to the system to minimize exposure. Monitor logs for unusual input validation errors.
