Executive Summary

CVE-2026-27490 affects Combodo iTop versions before 3.2.3. It involves weak secret generation for inline images, protected by a 24-bit pseudo-random secret. This secret is insufficient against brute-force attacks due to low entropy. The issue is classified under CWE-331 (Insufficient Entropy).

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the iTop software version installed on your system. If it is prior to 3.2.3, the system is vulnerable. You can verify the version by examining the iTop application files or through the web interface. No specific commands are provided in the resources, but version checks and log analysis for unauthorized image access attempts may help.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to access protected inline images without authentication. This risks exposing sensitive data contained in those images. Exploitation requires no privileges or user interaction and can be done remotely over the network.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive inline images, potentially exposing personal or confidential data. This may violate GDPR's data protection principles if such data includes personally identifiable information, or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information, depending on the context of use.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade iTop to version 3.2.3 or later to address the weak secret generation issue. Ensure the update includes the cryptographically secure secret generation and validation changes. Review and restrict access to inline images to prevent unauthorized access during the upgrade process.
