Executive Summary

CVE-2026-48046 is a critical Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability in Streambert versions before 2.5.0. It occurs because the auto-updater does not validate URLs passed to it by the renderer process. A compromised renderer can trick the main process into downloading and executing arbitrary binaries, leading to full system compromise.

Detection Guidance

Check if Streambert is running version 2.4.0 or earlier. Inspect network traffic for unexpected downloads from untrusted sources. Monitor for unauthorized binary execution or file downloads outside the official GitHub release path.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary code on your system with the same privileges as the Streambert application. This could lead to data theft, malware installation, or complete system takeover. Users of vulnerable versions should update immediately.

Compliance Impact

This RCE vulnerability could result in unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance breaches if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Streambert to version 2.5.0 or later immediately. Restrict auto-updater URLs to only the official GitHub release path. Disable automatic execution of downloaded files if possible.
