Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an incorrect access control issue in the startSlaveReboot function of TOTOLINK T6 firmware version 4.1.5cu.748_B20211015. It allows unauthenticated attackers to force a device reboot by sending a specially crafted MQTT message.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this vulnerability requires monitoring for unauthorized MQTT messages triggering the startSlaveReboot function. Check network traffic for suspicious MQTT packets sent to TOTOLINK T6 devices. Use packet capture tools like tcpdump or Wireshark to inspect MQTT traffic on port 1883 or 8883 for commands forcing reboots.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to reboot your TOTOLINK T6 device without authentication, potentially causing service disruption or requiring manual intervention to restore normal operation.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the TOTOLINK T6 firmware to the latest version if available. Block unauthorized MQTT traffic at the network perimeter using firewalls. Disable MQTT access from untrusted networks. Monitor device logs for reboot commands and restrict MQTT message handling to authenticated sources only.
